William K. Mannerheimintie across from the Sports Hall is the pioneer of Helsinki beer restaurants. European influences were uncharacteristically brought to the Tavern that opened its doors in June 1991. The wide beer selection, dark panelling, sinks for washing glasses and the William K. signature, carpets on tables, were never previously seen in Finland.
William K. Mannerheimintie became in next to no time the cosy living room for regulars and a meeting place for friends of beer. This ancestor of all the Taverns continues in the same way even today.
